Company Smart Roof Advantage
Most people we have talked to would choose going "green" in respect to their roofing needs. The real problem has been that most people do not know where or how to begin looking for a green roofing contractor. Many companies claim being "green", but what does that really mean?
The EPA estimates that over 136 million tons of building-related trash from construction and demolition projects are sent to landfills every year, amounting to 2.8 pounds per person per day. Of this material, between 1 percent and 10 percent are asphalt roofing materials.
According to the National Roofing Contractors Association, "Every year, an estimated nine million tons of asphalt roofing waste ends up in our nation's landfills — at a cost of more than $400 million in disposal fees alone. Yet most manufacturing and tear-off waste from asphalt shingles and roll roofing can be economically and effectively recycled into asphalt pavement for roads and highways."
Landfill space and virgin resources are conserved, and jobs created when consumers choose products made from recycled materials. These eco-friendly options also consume up to 95 percent less energy than materials made from virgin materials and promote a significant reduction in water usage and air pollution created.
Many roofing contractors have started to jump aboard the green building movement and are making claims to being a eco-friendly roofing company solely based on carrying of such materials as metal or recycled roofing products. Others make pledges to do something in the future, meaning not today.
